Best beaches in Cuba: Guardalavaca
With dazzling white sands, this beach resort is second in popularity only to Varadero. From Villa Don Lino to Estero Ciego and Bahia de Naranjo, the sailing, deep-sea fishing, wind-surfing, canoeing, SCuba diving and snorkelling, as well as volleyball and tennis, are all first-class. It was just west of Villa Don Lino, somewhere on Bariay Bay, that Columbus is believed to have made his first landing in Cuba, on October 28, 1492. On Naranjo Bay, a boat-cruise takes you out to the island aquarium where dolphins and sea lions perform daily and you can swim with the dolphins for an additional charge. The remains of a hilltop Indian village have been excavated and preserved as a museum at Chorro de Maita, 8 km (5 miles) south of Guardalavaca.
