The most charming hotels in Havana

Where should I stay in Havana?

This is a question I am asked all the time by tourists that have never been to Cuba before.

Today I am going to share with you the list of what in my modest opinion are the most charming hotels in Havana.

1. Santa Isabel Hotel
This is one of my favorites. Santa Isabel Hotel was since the 17th Century the residence of the Governor of Cuba. It was for many years the most opulent palace in Havana. Today is a 4 star plus hotel and houses only 27 rooms. The location is exellent - overlooking one of the main squares in Havana Vieja and the entrance of the harbour. Cost around £45.00 or 81.00 USD per person per night.

2. Hostal Valencia
This has to be one of the most charming of all. This hotel/hostel is one of the smallest in Havana with only 12 rooms. The house is one of the oldest in Havana dating back from the 17th Century. Blue wooden verandas and morish arches can be appreciated everywhere in the house. This hotel also enjoy the priviledge of housing the very best restaurant for Valencian Paella in Cuba.Hotel cost around £20.00 or 36.00 USD per person per night.

3. Comendador Hotel
Very close to Hostal valencia in fact they both share the same reception desk. They are conencted to each other from the inner patio. Same sort of Colonial architecture than Hostal valencia and it only has 14 rooms. It is a 3 star hotel but better than many of the 3 star hotels I have visited in Europe. Cost around £25.00 or 45.00 USD per person per night.

4. Los Frailes hotel.
This is a former Mansion that belonged to a captain of the French Navy in the 19th Century. This 3 star hotel has a lot of character. It was named os Frailes (The Friars)after its proximity to Saint Francis of Assisi Church and Convent in Havana. One of the most interesting things is the decoration and the whole theme of the hotel. Even the stuff including the barman is dressed as a monk. One thing though: the standard rooms have no windows. My advice is to go for the Junior Suites with balconies. Cost around £34.00 or 61.00 USD per person per night.

5. Palacio San Miguel
This is particulary recommended for its fantastic views of the entrance of Havana's Harbor. It only has 6 rooms and is another of this rich residences from the 19th Century. Cost around £38.00 or 69.00 USD per person per night.

There are some more like Condes De Villanueva, Florida and Raquel Hotel.

There are many options in Havana and depending on what your interest is I would recommend one or another.

I hope you have found this interesting. Thanks
